Bayshore YC- R.G. Terry Trophy: Moonrise- Rob Gutmann

It was a great day for our rescheduled SBCC Discoverers Race to Atlantique this past Saturday, Oct 28th.  Five boats came out to enjoy beautiful blue skies, temps in the 70’s and a 10-14 kt WSW wind. Shadow/Charlie & Janie Margeson were RC and Charlie was SBCC host. Snoopy/Dave DeRuvo- BSYC Commodore hosted for the Bay Shore YC,  and provided their R.G. Terry trophy.

We had a 1:00 PM pursuit start in Bay Shore with 10-12 Kts of wind. The wind picked up as racers enjoyed a broad reach down the West Channel to Crazy Charlie which made for some exciting sailing. The fleet stayed in the shallows of the West Channel and two boats (Moonrise & Snoopy) touched bottom.  The downwind run to Buoy #8 had the fleet sailing wing on wing.  Then it was an easy run in the East Channel to the finish at #12.  The race took less than 1 hour to complete this year in such great conditions.

Everyone pulled into Atlantique after the race and about 15 of us enjoyed the sun, food, refreshments with some post race catching up. Both Dave & I presented the BSYC & SBCC racing awards (and a few congratulatory rum shots) before we all headed home.

Kudos to Rob Gutmann & crew who despite running aground twice in the West Channel made an impressive comeback to finish in 3rd place. Enjoy the racing pictures taken by Ruth Gutmann & Janie Margeson.

It was a great day and a perfect end to our 2023 SBCC racing season.
